Formerly part of the Capitol Police force for over 15 years, Dunn decided to take on a new role by entering the crowded Democratic primary for Maryland’s 3rd Congressional District. Dunn, who received the Presidential Citizens Medal from President Biden for his defense of democracy on January 6, spoke about his experience before the Jan. 6 committee in Washington. During his 2021 congressional testimony, Dunn, who is Black, detailed the racial slurs hurled at him by the intruders after revealing his vote for Biden.
